the occurrence of colours by night

The dystopian genderfluid fashion of textile artist Sophie Lenglachner focuses on the beauty of darkness and reflective shimmers of light. The choreography of contemporary dancer Jan Kollenbach plays with the dynamic of oscillating between shadow and brightness. The textile as a canvas leaves its state as an inanimate object to conquer a ruinous industrial landscape. choreography by Nicole Kadar & Dancers - while editing a full length dance concert I added a filter to give the dance a particular look & feel. but what happened next was something I rarely do. I used a mirror effect and it divided & repeated half the frame. which gave the piece a more abstract & hypnotic effect.

Body Without a Brain is a high risk, physically demanding dance for camera. Rianto seems to be in a trance as he creates an unpremeditated encounter with the elements. He describes the work as like a tree without roots. The piece embodies anxiety as the natural world becomes ever more threatened. Filmed in Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo).

New Lament

My first taste of brutal Illinois winter came during lockdown. Isolation took its toll as the landscape grew colder, darker, more barren. COVID pressed the pause button on my whole life, and with nothing left to do but stare out the window and remember what life used to be like, I started to feel a deep connection with the winter unfolding around me. As I slipped further into depression, I watched the green and gold of the grass and trees fade away. I felt like nature and I were becoming dormant together, and I found comfort. The birds soaring outside felt like the perfect opposite of my dancing body caged in isolation. In them I saw resilience, rebirth, freedom. This project, a collage of movement in nature and my choreography, is a visual/visceral exploration of my inner and outer journey through winter. It is a landmark in my self rediscovery as an independent multimedia dance artist.

The "YEL" short dance film is about the struggle of polarities inside a human being and about the reaction she or he may have when faced with all the contrasts of the outer world. And only self-overcoming can give a human being the feeling of victory.

CONCEPT: A crowd sleeps in her …

You can hear the voices of people shouting “Yel” - “Stand-up”.

She steps down without stopping. She seems to be dragging some burdensome thoughts with her and that burden makes her path even harder. She feels the inevitable approach of the upcoming. She is confident with herself but this is only an outer appearance of her. She is hesitant, she is afraid of being erroneous.

A woman who regularly appears in her thoughts is her inner self. Her oppressed freedom is constrained by a polyphony of stones, walls, and pillars. She tries to escape herself, she is alone and defenseless, she wants to be loved. Vain struggle! She continues descending, eventually reaching the final stair and…

Soar

A yearning for flight, inspired by the legendary Huma Bird. In the Hindu scriptures, the Huma Bird is said to never come to rest, living its entire life flying high in the sky, even when it lays its eggs. The only time it ceases its flight is when it dies.

The work takes shape through the contemporary Chinese dance choreography of Neo Jenny and Benedict Soh, and an original score by Qing Lun Tan, Kailin Yong and Jeffrey Tan.

Islee reflects the borders we made, the eternal aisle of the unknown, the stereotypes without souls, the insane sense of isolation. Plastic is twisted on the body plugging the tissues and killing the breath. The reality is based on something far away from the truth of human beings. Tied hands, covered mouths, broken hearts. But in an isolated system the entropy can only increase.
