«»dance for the camera», «video dance», «cine dance», «screendance», – may seem somewhat interchangeable, they are, in actuality, quite specific. Each term speaks to a particular combination of performance and materiality, and each sites the dual properties of their hybridized identities in an order that signifies the relative importance of the parts.” - Douglas Rosenberg, Screendance

TEM PO RA RY

film by Anna Guseva (c) 2024 RUSSIAN FEDERATION

In the nature of ever-changing times there are certain places gifted with an ability to capture moments, to keep memories of those who used to exist within those walls hundred, or sixty, or thirty years ago. Inside the walls of Dom Radio (House of Radio) the protagonist paves her way through multiple periods in the history of the building (1914 – 1998), and so she meets ghosts of the past during this journey. Due to different and often difficult circumstances the same people were forced to change their behaviour and the way they look.

Severe times when mercy leaves our world give birth to darkness even among the kindest people, yet after all changes and alterations a human is still a human, staying itself as always has been. The protagonist falls out of space where no time exists to navigate through past in order to bind different time layers together. From the fall to the fight, from the run to the blue, from everyday brawls to limbo space of love.

In the end the heroine encounters multiple versions of herself and thus she finds the fullness of existence. The dance is over in order to begin again.

The Response

film by Penny Chivas (c) 2024 UK

In a deep dark remote loch, what secrets lie beneath the surface?

Someone is determined to find out.

In this tartan-scandi-noir screendance, a lone investigator searches what remains, what passes with time, seeking to grasp the unknowable, feeling its pervading presence.

Moving across time, one dancer seeks to understand a situation that maybe never have existed. 'The Response' asks how we understand what we know when feelings and fact collide, when both take over our minds.

1986

film by Didier Mulleras (c) 2022 FRANCE

Time capsule. 1986. Nothing has changed. The walls, the room, almost empty. Party is over, for years now. Vibrations seem to float, sensations of bodies dancing, again and again. Sub-bass, haunting the silence. Frankie says "Relax".

Bleach

A young man in his mid 20's, who is on the losing side of his battle with depression, gradually falls deeper into dejection, while further isolating himself from any outside help that may pull him back. Trying to keep track of the shift between the days and nights becomes increasingly inconsequential, as his ability to distinguish reality wanes.

Lapsúlyos || Certain Solitude

film by Bernadett Jobbágy (c) 2023 HUNGARY

Being in a gym.

Running on a treadmill.

Letting the perception shift, in which shift you may notice the choreography of the space around.

Being inspired by the persistence of muscles, by the body-fluids, the sweat, and the skin, the film oscillates between "everyday movement" and "dance". Contemplation and action. Contemplation in action. Sensing and feeling the space. Touching the space.
